You know how parents are always saying they don’t want anything for holidays? Like, “your presence is a present, or quality time is the best gift of all.” Yeah well my mom will hit you with a link to the Nike sneakers she’s been wanting, with her size and color preference. But for Mother’s Day, all she wants is to spend the day together (no links were sent this year, I need to check in on her) And while my homemade card era is over (I still add doodles okay) I am very clearly in my cooking/baking era. I don’t know if we can even call it an era, it’s just who I am at this point. Not everything needs to be called an era, and I need to learn that.
But that means for holidays that don’t necessarily warrant a materialistic gift, I make something. Give me a bouquet of peonies and a freshly baked pastry, I’ll never forget it. And honestly, it’s rare anyone ever makes me something but that’s because I am type A and take control of my own birthday cake, always offer to host at my place and will take over my boyfriend’s entire dinner plan to cook me something, but then get mad that he never cooks me dinner?? Anyway, this isn’t even about me and I made it all about me.
FOR YOUR MOTHA - a homemade brunch spread or even a little treat is the perfect thoughtful idea for Mother’s Day. Especially if you’re not culinarily inclined - she’ll be so shook and proud. So, if I find out y’all are making your mothers cook on Sunday - I will come find you and force you to make croissants from scratch for the next 48 hours.
