as you may have guessed by now I really like eating at home. this probably stems from my experience of going out to eat with my parents and them saying “we could’ve made this better at home” after every dish. but I’d be lying if I said many steaks I’ve had out were better than my dad’s so maybe they had a point. I remember at the time I would just roll my eyes and ask why we couldn’t be a normal family and go out to eat like everyone else. ah, what a naive gal.

spoiler alert: I would soon come to find out that I’m becoming my parents because now when my friends invite me out to eat, I hijack the plans and turn them into a dinner party.

same thing goes for date night with alex hence the new series:

~date night at home ~

the idea stemmed from my gozney oven looking at me dead in the eyes, untouched, halfway through summer. I was ridden with guilt I didn’t show her any appreciation thus far. so enter: taco night at home (in the pizza oven, but easily could’ve been done on the grill or inside) and perhaps let this be a reminder to enjoy your rent money & cook at home!!!

the menu:

  • carne asada inspired hangar steak

  • pineapple salsa

  • guacamole

  • hibiscus ranch water

  • salsa verde

  • homemade tortillas (I used this recipe & halved it. I think I should’ve kneaded them more as the video wasn’t super detailed but they turned out pretty decent for my first try!! any tortilla tips welcome pls)

despite there being many components, it’s all honestly super easy to make and can be made ahead - i.e. marinating, chopping the salsa, making the tea concentrate etc. this would be an awesome menu for a dinner party - you could marinate some shrimp in the same marinade (just double it) separately for a second protein option too.

ok now before any cooking commences, you’ll need a cocktail! all the chopping and rolling is much funner after 1-2 ranch waters.
